A Note from Bishop-Elect Nunn (after his election)
The Rev. Canon Michael Buerkel Hunn was appointed Canon to the Presiding Bishop in 2015 and has supported the ministries of the Most Rev. Michael B. Curry within The Episcopal Church. He has supervisory responsibilities for Formation, Transition and Communication ministries, is liaison for the House of Bishops, Office of Pastoral Care, Office of Bishop for the Armed Forces and Federal Ministries, and the Convocation in Europe. He is chair of the General Convention 2018 Liturgy Committee and serves on the Joint Standing Committee on Planning and Arrangements for General Convention. Prior to his appointment he was Canon to the Ordinary for the Diocese of North Carolina from 2006 to 2015. His responsibilities included designing training for pastoral responders, redesigning congregational transition process, supervising Congregational Development, providing clergy mentoring, coordinating racial reconciliation efforts and redesigning Diocesan Stewardship and Fair Share. From 2003 to 2006 he was Episcopal Chaplain at Davidson College and Associate Rector of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Davidson, North Carolina. He served as adjunct faculty Spring 2003 at Seabury Western Seminary, Chicago, Illinois. Prior postings include: Senior Associate Rector, Church of the Holy Comforter, Kenilworth, Illinois, 2001-2003, and Chair, Religion Department and Chaplain, The Kent School, Kent, Connecticut, 1997-2001. He received his Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts with a major in Theology from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and Certificate of Advanced Theological Study from Seabury Western Theological Seminary. He was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood in the Diocese of Vermont in 1997.
